The UK farming industry must be clear with policy-makers about what it wants from Brexit, a leading agricultural banker has warned.
HSBC head of agriculture Allan Wilkinson said the industry must step up to demand its fair share of policy change – and set its own house in order.
“We need to be bold, that we are going to set up the structures to do what needs doing, and to be first to do it, and to not take ten years to evolve into it,” Mr Wilkinson told a lecture at the Farmers’ Club, London.
“We need to jump to where we need to be. We don’t have five years to get there.”
