Farmer fears business is at risk after Brexit

Kent grower Alastair Brooks says 90 % of his staff come from the EU – but recruiters are struggling to fill the staffing numbers he needs.

Mr Brooks relies on seasonal workers from the EU to harvest his fruit crops. And though he managed to recruit this year, he sees signs Brexit is starting to hit.

Every year, around 90,000 overseas workers come to work in UK agriculture.

Since last year’s Brexit vote, Mr Brooks has seen recruiters struggle to fill places and people already reluctant to come to the UK.
