Gove argues for food provenance and quality

The provenance of UK food will underpin the government’s global export strategy post-Brexit, Defra secretary Michael Gove has claimed.

The UK needs to move away from “bulk produce” to a strategy based on “quality and provenance”, Mr Gove told a Food and Drink Federation summer reception at the Houses of Parliament on Monday (10 July).

As environment secretary, Mr Gove pledged to work closely with other government departments “in making sure that we can open new markets to our produce”.
