Brexit will not just affect the British countryside in terms of agriculture – it will also bring other rural issues to a head.
In some rural areas, average house prices are 10 times average household income.
Now a Rural Coalition of 12 national organisations has warned that countryside communities concerns are in danger of being squeezed if Brexit discussions focus only on agriculture and the environment.
The effects of austerity and corporate cost-cutting has already decimated vital rural services, it argues, “risking rural communities becoming enclaves only for the wealthy”.
