The government is “sleepwalking” into a post-Brexit future of insecure, unsafe and increasingly expensive food supplies, says a report by influential academics.
The study says ministers and the public have become complacent after decades of consistent food supplies and stable prices for the UK, something greatly helped by the EU.
And it warns that the government has little idea how to replace decades of EU regulation on the issue.
Written by food policy experts from three universities, the report is published on the day Brexit secretary David Davis heads to Brussels for further talks with the EU on departure arrangements.
