Farm support post-Brexit must deliver clear environmental benefits, says Defra secretary Michael Gove.
The government has pledged to match the £3 billion currently receive in support from the CAP until 2022.
Mr Gove says the government wants to “go on generously supporting farmers” for many years to come.
But he warns that support can only be argued for against other competing public goods if the environmental benefits of that spending are clear.
Mr Gove delivered his “Unfrozen moment – Delivering a Green Brexit” speech on Friday 21 July.
