Welsh farmers voice concern at Gove’s vision for agriculture

Welsh farm leaders have labelled Michael Gove’s post-Brexit vision for agriculture a cause for concern.

The Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) spoke out after the Defra secretary said farmers would only get support payments if they agreed to protect the environment.

FUW President Glyn Roberts said: “The union has concerns about the strong focus on environmental schemes, which neglect the need for food production.”

Mr Gove’s vision did not recognise the role farmers played in maintaining the countryside, said Mr Roberts.
