Defra secretary Michael Gove has rejected criticism from Welsh farmers who say the government is giving too little priority to a post-Brexit free trade deal with the EU.
Speaking on the opening day of the Royal Welsh Show, Mr Gove promised that the government would take care of Welsh farmers’ interests.
Asked what certainty he could offer Welsh farmers about trade, he said: “We can offer them the fact there’s going to be a comprehensive free trade deal between Britain and Europe.”
Challenged on how he could be so certain, Mr Gove replied: “Because it’s in the interests of every party.”
